This is not a joke. The German wonder Werner Herzog will be playing the villain in the upcoming Tom Cruise actioner One Shot, playing a character named “The Zec”. Herzog is the director of such cult classics as Aguirre: The Wrath of God, Fitzcarraldo and Grizzly man as well as Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, but this is the first time he will actually be in a leading role in a movie. He’s acted before but only in cameos or guest appearances in such films as Julien Donkey Boy, Mister Lonely and What Dreams May Come as well as doing voice work in the Simpsons.
The movie is based on a popular novel by author Lee Child and Tom Cruise will play the hero Jack Reacher. One Shot is the ninth book in a sixteen book series about Reacher and if the film will be a hit it’s very likely more films will be made about Reacher.
One Shot will be written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie who is mostly famous for his oscar-winning screenplay for The Usual Suspects, as well as having co-written Valkyrie and the upcoming Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, but this will be his second time as a director, his first movie was The Way of the Gun, which premiered to mixed reviews way back in 2000.
Herzog has always been quite the character. To give you an idea of what he’s like we recommend you watch a short documentary made about him called Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe, which you can view here below. His turn as a baddie in a Tom Cruise action flick should be memorable at the very least.
