The world is Jeremy Renner‘s oyster these days. He recently starred in Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, a film both we and the general cinema-going audience loved, he’s been nominated for two Academy Awards, he’s possibly taking over the Mission Impossible franchise, he’s in The Avengers and has been given the reins of the Bourne franchise. The only thing we’ve seen very little of was that last one, but that all changes today as we finally have a trailer:
It calls back to revelations in The Bourne Ultimatum and attempts to one-up the previous trilogy’s protagonist. In effect it shows very little but excites a lot. Both the stylistic rectangular blinds and moody music give of a rather sinister vibe while the footage promises that things will be bigger, better and more badass. I’m in.
The Bourne Legacy was directed by Tony Gilroy, who wrote all the Bourne films, it also stars Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach, Oscar Isaac, Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn, and will be released this summer. Check out the new poster below.

‘Bigger, better and more badass’ isn’t necessarily a good thing. The Bourne films were never just action movies – they had a realistic edge, you always felt that what Matt Damon was doing was possible, while at the same time enjoying being swept along by the speed of his decisions. I love Jeremy Renner and I would love to see more Treadstone agents doing awesome things, but if they change it to Mission Impossible style, all-out action (as good as that can be in other films) I will be very disappointed.
But thumbs up for Edward Norton, I had no idea he was in it.
