Oscar winner and seminal badass Denzel Washington is in talks to join Mark Wahlberg‘s next big project, 2 Guns, now in development at Universal, according to Superherohype.com. We at Filmophilia have been following the development of this project with some interest ever since Contraband director Baltasar Kormakur, who will helm 2 Guns, revealed in a recent interview with us that he was “approaching a very big name” but wouldn’t reveal exactly what name that was. Now it seems that the name is indeed no smaller than Denzel Washington, two-time Academy Award winner.
Baltasar has been flooded with offers over the last few weeks, with an Icelandic news outlet even claiming he had been offered to direct an unnamed blockbuster with a budget exceeding $200 million. However, we’ve had no confirmation of those news, so we’ll take them with a grain of salt.
If Denzel is indeed onboard 2 Guns, then production will presumably start sooner than later, putting it squarely at #1 on Baltasar’s priority list, ahead of Everest, another Universal project he’s attached to. This would be the first time these two dramatic action stars, Wahlberg and Washington, make a film together, thereby instantly making it one of 2013′s most anticipated action flicks.
2 Guns is based on a graphic novel by Steven Grant, with the screenplay written by Blake Masters.
We will update you with further news as soon as we get confirmation on Denzel’s involvement in the project.
