Last year Natalie Portman won an Oscar for her terrific turn in Black Swan. Then she took a break to have a baby, but only after having made sure that she’d never be far from moviegoers eyes by lining up three films for 2011: No Strings Attached, Your Highness and Thor. Hard worker that one.
Now she’s back and ready for more. And she’s not exactly taking the easy route, as Deadline reports that she’ll be starring in back to back films from none other than Terrence Malick. The first one, Knight of Cups (a tarot card reference, ‘a man in touch with his emotions’), will shoot over the summer complete with a rather heavy hitting cast of Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett and Isabel Lucas (three out of four is a pretty good ratio, and honestly Lucas is fine, but nowhere near the level of her peers). Then in the fall they’ll make Lawless. The cast there is even more impressive: Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett (again), Ryan Gosling (!!), Rooney Mara (!) and Haley Bennett.
Plot details are all but non-existent for both projects but the talent attached is more than enough to wet one’s appetite. Look for both films in 2013.
On top of those two Malick, famously unproductive, also has two other projects coming out as well. Voyage of Time, an examination of the birth and death of the universe narrated by Brad Pitt and Emma Thompson, and an untitled romance film featuring Javier Bardem, Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams. Both of them are due out this year.

If I know Malick and his post-production methods right than these films might actually not come out until 2014 or even 2015. Remember that The Tree of Life was shot in 2008…
